Interview- Orthopedic Nurse 1. What is the most widely used technology in orthopedics? Answer- “I think the most widely used piece of technology is the simple x-ray. It is used by every doctor here and is essential for proper treatment and diagnosis.” Reflection- I agree. I think the x-ray is the most commonly used because it is a quick and easy way to diagnose.
2. What is the most common strategy used in daily patient care? Answer- “Each doctor uses different strategies when treating patients. I would say that the most common strategy is the use of diagnostic assessments, like the MRI, to develop treatment and rehabilitation plans for each individual patient.” Reflection- I agree because the diagnostic assessments must be used to properly diagnose and treat.
3. In your opinion, what is the most important technology used in orthopedics? Answer- “I think the most important technologies used have to be the ones used in the operating room, such as arthroscopy. The surgeons use a camera and display its picture on a screen, allowing the surgery to be done with minimal incisions or scarring.” Reflection- I agree because the benefits that come from arthroscopic surgery, like minimal scarring, are very important to most people.
4. In your opinion, what is the most effective strategy that is used? Answer- ¨I think the most effective strategy is the same as the most commonly used strategy, diagnostic assessments, because in most cases you must perform them to properly diagnose.¨ Reflection- I agree that diagnostic assessments like the MRI and the X-Ray are the most effective strategy because almost 100% of the time they are used to identify the energy.¨
5. What is the piece of technology that most benefits you directly? Answer- “Personally, the technology that benefits my job the most is the patient database. It provides information on things like patient history, when patients check in the office, and when their x-rays are complete.” Reflection- I think that the patient database benefits her the most because when calling patients back and keeping the rotation of the rooms going so that it is easier on the doctor.
6. What piece of technology do you think benefits the doctor the most? Answer- ¨I think the arthroscopic surgery benefits the doctor the most because it opens up their field of vision by using a camera and putting it on the screen.¨ Reflection- I agree because it helps give the doctor clearer sight and allows the surgery to be minimally invasive.
7. In your opinion, what is the most important aspect of an orthopedic injury? Diagnosis, Treatment/Surgery, or Recovery. Answer- “I think the most important aspect is the diagnosis because without correct diagnosis, proper treatment and recovery cannot follow.” Reflection- I agree because if you incorrectly diagnost then the treatment and recovery will not be beneficial.
8. Can any of the patient care strategies used here be used in other fields of medicine as well? Answer- “Yes. There are general patient care strategies that can be used in most all fields of medicine, but there are also strategies that are more effective just in orthopedics.” Reflection- They can be used in other fields of medicine because some strategies are simply regarding rehabilitation.
9. Do any of the forms of technology pertain to orthopedics only? Answer- “Technically, no. The technologies used here can be used in different areas of medicine, but are used most commonly in orthopedics.” Reflection- I agree because different uses can be developed from any piece of technology.
10. In your opinion, which is more important in developing patient care? Technology or Strategy. Answer- “I think technology is more important in developing patient care. Each new piece of technology opens up a door to many things like creating new surgeries.” Reflection- I also think technology is more important. New strategies oftentimes make things faster or more effective, but new technologies create new surgeries altogether.
